THE NORTH SHORE!!!

Today it was the 20th of February and this morning was a bit tough! We had to wake up, but that wasn't that easy. We all made it to the breakfast though. The breakfast was like everyday, really amazing! It was a little bit different then yesterday but there were so many choices again!

We left at 9 this morning with the bus. Rhonda was our bus driver and she taught us some words in Hawaiian. One was humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which is Hawaii's state fish that has a pig snout nose. When we arrived at the capital building, we immediately noticed how pretty and interesting it was.  The building had pieces that represented different things from Hawaii. The pillars represented palm trees, the roof was a volcano and in front of the building was Father Damien, a man who helped people with leprosy, but in the end he died of it himself. When we walked through the building there was the open roof which represented the volcano. It was beautiful. You could see the sky through it which made iyou feel like you were inside a volcano. Directly under the roof was a mosaic, which represented laws and was made out of blue stones. It kinda looked like a turtles back or the sea. Then we walked out of the building and then there was a palace of the king of Hawaii before it became the 50th state. We took our first group picture right in front of the building.

Then we jumped in the bus with Ronda. We made our way to the Dole pineapple plantation. Pineapples are the second biggest economic income in Hawaii. On our way there Ronda told us about how everyday life is for local Hawaiian people that are our age. They walk over the field picking pineapples for just $1.50 an hour. She told us about the beautiful view and then we arrived at the plantation. We ate amazing pineapple whip there, it was a sort of pineapple ice. In the plantation you could walk around, it had different little stores and kiosks where you could do or buy things. We could got airbrush tattoos, made bracelets and bought some handmade purses or other souvenirs.

Next we drove to a little surfers city called Haleiwa. It was full of  little restaurants everywhere and surf shops. We ate an amazing sandwich at a bakery, it was really good. Some other people ate Mexican and some other ate the hamburgers, there was so many choices! We left there and drove to the beaches. When we drove out of the little city we saw the 'baywatch-beach'. We saw the windmills of Hawaii! We didn't know they had them in Hawaii too! It was funny to see. We drove through the shrimp plantation, people catch shrimps there and eat them with  sauce.

We saw a lot a beaches, they all had names with meanings. One was called three flat tables, it had three flat stones. An other one was called shark bay, there are a lot of hammerhead sharks there. And we saw the three bays with the big beaches were the biggest tournament each year is held. We stopped at Sunset beach and it was so beautiful. It was the beach you could only dream of. It's the beach you see on Internet if you search on 'beautiful beach' at google. It's the one you see in movies, and that's for real because the pirates of the Caribbean was recorded there. We took a lot of pictures and a group picture, everyone had sand everywhere when we had to go in the bus again. Then we drove to the Polynesian Cultural Center.

We started in Tahiti where we learned dancing. Four people from our group went on stage to dance with the Tahitians. Also a little Chinese boy was dancing with them, it was so cute and then he won. They all received a headband made of leaves and flowers. We went to a show with drums from Tonga.  Three man came on stage and they had to try to follow along with the drumming chief. It was fun. The first guy did what he told him to do. They screamed loud and danced an drummed with him. The second guy was an American too. He did what he was supposed to do, but half we he started singin 'who let the dogs out'. And the guy who presented acted all upset, it was really funny. Then the last guy was Japanese, he didn't understand English very well and started hitting the presenter on his belly! It was weird and really funny. We all had tears in our eyes because we needed to laugh so hard.
Then we had a hula dance class, we all did it, bet it looked really funny.

After 45 minutes we went then to another show. The guy who present the show was really funny. He did a lot of jokes and showed us how they make fire and cook on their island called Samoa. At the end of the show they led two flags down and they sang their national anthem. When the show was over we had dinner. At dinner we had an buffet were we could chose from a lot of different choices of food. It was delicious! We could chose something like meet, rice, spaghetti with tomato sauce, salat and a lot more.

At 7:30 p.m we went to a polynesian show. The show was about how a boy was raised in Polynesian culture. It was an amazing show with dancing and the sang all the time. At the end there some amazing guys who did tricks with fire.
At nine o'clock the show was over and we went to our busses to drive back to our hotel. The most of us slept in the bus because we are all very tired and I think we will all be glad when we are lying in our beds and go to sleep.

Tomorrow we will have another amazing day!
