SURFING, CATAMARAN & SHOPPING IN HAWAII!

Aloha! And OMG we're in Hawaii!

We tried to play it cool, and not freak out as we walked in the streets of Honolulu, but to be honest we couldn't  even keep count of how many times we had to resist the urge to scream: "I'M IN HAWAII!!". Not only were there palm trees everywhere but all of the Brad Pitt look alikes definitely convinced us that we were on the set of Baywatch. It all began with our "on land surf lesson, which makes Einstein look like a fool. Surfing on sand sure put gracefulness of surfing on hold while we learned how not to fail miserably in the salty ocean. As we descended into the water, we thought the most painful part of the day would be the embarrassment of our bodies not so gently colliding with the surface of the sea , but to our surprise... It wasn't. We soon realized that surfing itself is not the hard part. Paddling with our foreign and pale arms was much more difficult than it appeared, so the embarrassment was how tired we got from just paddling out to the waves! The only thing that kept us going was the open, welcoming and muscular arms of the instructors waiting to greet us (that and the fact that land was far away by then). The feeling of success and to be able to surf, as in standing up on the massive board moving slowly towards civilization, was absolutely, indescribably amazing (The Hot surf guys surely played a part in this feeling).

The idea of leaving the warm, refreshing water and saying goodbye to our sweet sweet instructors to go on the cold and wet boat ride on the catamaran was not very appealing at first. As soon as we arrived, the view of the upgraded and younger version of Brad Pitt as co-captain was enough to make us want to stay. By now, you probably think we are a couple of hormonal, boy crazy teenagers, but trust me, if you were there, you'd be right there with us. The view of the nature, of course, lived up to our expectations. We could see the city from the catamaran ride, and we saw lots of sea life too- dolphins, sea turtles, etc. The sailing experience was a lot more fun than we had expected, especially due to the fact that it was practically impossible to avoid the massive amounts of water trying to knock us over. As soon as every single person had swallowed five gallons of salt water each, some of us decided to accept the challenge  waves had given us and agreed that if you can't fight them, then join them. We therefore moved to the front of the boat, and allowed the waves to swallow us. Luckily, we were created to be water tolerent and no harm was caused- other than too many laughs.

We ended our evening with pizza with our whole group, followed by a nice walk and shopping with the outrageous prices of Hawaii. After day 1, we have concluded that WE LOVE SURFERS and WE LOVE HAWAII!

Ebba and Mona, two of many awesome Norwegians.
